Graduate Women Manawatu Charitable Trust Inc. is a Charitable Trust registered with the New Zealand Charities Commission (CC31226). Our main purpose is to support education for women. The Trust advocates for women at the local, regional and international level in order to ensure that women and girls receive the necessary education and opportunities to reach their full potential. The Trust was established in 1988. The Trust grew from the Manawatu Branch of the New Zealand Federation of Graduate Women, now known as Graduate Women Manawatu, who had taken over the responsibility to supply Academic Regalia to the staff and students at Massey University in the late 1950s. From 1950 to 1990 the Trust buiIt its stock of Academic Regalia for both Massey University and UCOL and was housed in various locations around the Massey University Campus in Palmerston North. In 1990 the Trust moved its Academic Dress into spacious premises at the Kura Awa Complex, Massey University, Hokowhitu. In 2013, the Trust relocated to the main Massey University Campus and continues to supply Academic Dress from this central location on Refectory Road today. The Trust donates approximately $100,000 annually, including $22,000 to National Awards such as GWNZ Fellowships. Awards vary from small $1,000 grants to much larger $8,000 Postgraduate awards.
