UCOL has worked very closely with Academic Dress Hire to ensure the quality of the regalia on hire to students and staff for graduation.  Academic Dress Hire then uses the profits generated from regalia hire to support some annual scholarships at UCOL and other institution

What Regalia to Hire

Graduate Certificates and Diplomas	Bachelor Gown and  UCOL Diploma Stole  (see Stole colours below) (If you have already graduated with a degree, order a bachelor gown, UCOL Stole and trencher hat)

What to wear for UCOL Certificate Recipients

 

• Bachelor gown only required at UCOL ceremonies.
• Bachelor gowns are black Cambridge University style, and have an open sleeve
• They are a generous fit and should suit most people. We do have gowns that are wider across the shoulders  if required.
• Gowns are sized according to your full height and should be worn at mid-calf length.
• The size you select is a guide only as every customer is given an opportunity for a personal fitting when collecting regalia.

What to wear for UCOL Diploma Recipients

 

• Bachelor gown and a UCOL Sash with a Trencher (If you have a prior degree)
• Bachelor gowns are worn by Diploma recipients. They are black Cambridge University style, and have an open sleeve
• They are a generous fit and should suit most people. We do have gowns that are wider across the shoulders  if required.
• Gowns are sized according to your full height and should be worn at mid-calf length.
• The size you select is a guide only as every customer is given an opportunity for a personal fitting when collecting regalia.
• The UCOL Diploma Sash is a long scarf like garment that is worn over your Bachelor Gown. It is copper brown with a green motif. One size fits all.

What to wear for UCOL Bachelor Degree Recipients

 

• Bachelor gown with a hood (showing degree colours) and a Trencher.
• Bachelor gowns are worn by Bachelor degree recipients. They are black Cambridge University style, and have an open sleeve
• They are a generous fit and should suit most people. We do have gowns that are wider across the shoulders  if required.
• Gowns are sized according to your full height and should be worn at mid-calf length.
• The size you select is a guide only as every customer is given an opportunity for a personal fitting when collecting regalia.
• The hood for the Bachelor degree is lined with coloured satin.

What to wear for UCOL Graduate Certificates & Diplomas Recipients

 

• Bachelor gown and a UCOL stole (showing degree colours).
• OR
• The robes of your prior degree can be worn if they are available.
• Bachelor gowns are worn by Graduate Certificates & Diplomas recipients. They are black Cambridge University style, and have an open sleeve
• They are a generous fit and should suit most people. We do have gowns that are wider across the shoulders  if required.
• Gowns are sized according to your full height and should be worn at mid-calf length.
• The size you select is a guide only as every customer is given an opportunity for a personal fitting when collecting regalia.
• The UCOL Graduate Certificate & Diploma stole is long black scarf like garment trimmed with coloured satin. The colour of satin is dependent on your faculty. One size fits all.

What to wear for UCOL Post Graduate Certificates & Diplomas Recipients

 

• Bachelor gown, a hood (showing degree colours) and a Trencher.
• OR
• The robes of your prior degree can be worn if they are available. Email us info@masseygowns.org.nz for more information on the regalia from other universities that we have available.
• Bachelor gowns are worn by Post Graduate Certificates & Diplomas recipients. They are black Cambridge University style, and have an open sleeve
• They are a generous fit and should suit most people. We do have gowns that are wider across the shoulders  if required.
• Gowns are sized according to your full height and should be worn at mid-calf length.
• The size you select is a guide only as every customer is given an opportunity for a personal fitting when collecting regalia.
• The hood for the Post Graduate Certificate & Diploma is lined with coloured satin. The colour of the satin is dependent on your faculty.

• Bachelor gowns are worn by Bachelor degree with Honours recipients. They are black Cambridge University style, and have an open sleeve
• They are a generous fit and should suit most people. We do have gowns that are wider across the shoulders  if required.
• Gowns are sized according to your full height and should be worn at mid-calf length.
• The size you select is a guide only as every customer is given an opportunity for a personal fitting when collecting regalia.
• The hood for the Bachelor degree with honours is lined with coloured satin.The colour of  your hood is dependent on your faculty.

• Master gown, a Hood (showing degree colours) and a Trencher.
• Master gowns are worn by Master degree recipients. They are black Cambridge University style, and have a closed sleeve
• They are a generous fit and should suit most people. We do have gowns that are wider across the shoulders  if required.
• Gowns are sized according to your full height and should be worn at mid-calf length.
• The size you select is a guide only as every customer is given an opportunity for a personal fitting when collecting regalia.
• The Masters degree hoods are  lined with coloured satin. The coloured of your hood is dependent on your faculty.

DRESS CODE

Your graduation ceremony is a formal celebration of your achievement, and you are encouraged  to dress appropriately.

Appropriate dress  is considered to be
Men : suit and tie and applicable academic dress
Women: formal clothes and applicable academic dress

At Graduation all graduates shall appear in the academic dress proper to their qualification. A Korowai may be worn by Maori staff and graduands over the Cambridge Gown.  For degree graduands the hood is displayed over the top of the cloak.
International students may prefer to wear their national dress with academic regalia.


PHOTOGRAPHY

An official photographer will attend all UCOL ceremonies to take a photo of everyone receiving their award. For portrait packages the photographer will e available in the atrium before and after the ceremonies. A leaflet is enclosed within your graduation pack which outlines the prices and ordering information. Individuals are welcome to take photos and videos during the ceremony.

Advice from Previous Graduands

 

• The temperature in the venue is reasonably warm, especially when wearing regalia.
• Men may find it helpful to wear a shirt and tie, as placing the neckband of your hood under your tie helps to hold your hood in place (women may need to pin their hood to their gown).
• Graduation day involves a considerable amount of walking and standing so very high heels may not be practical.
• Choose a hairstyle that allows you to wear your trencher comfortably
